Never EVER leave an open cup of tomato juice in your refrigerator.

Especially don’t do it if your fridge is a white french door ,  the tomato juice will be SURE to fall into the little crack of the freezer drawer.

The contrast of the red tomato juice and the white refrigerator will be quite shocking, it will appear as if Edward Cullen himself vomited all over your fridge.

Then, be sure not to throw any of the tomato juice-saturated paper towels onto the already overflowing trash can, this will tip your trash can over, spilling WET coffee grounds and orange peels all over the floor.

Yes, this actually happened to me tonight. I think I win the award for “klutziest EVAR”.

Yay! An award!

Now get to it!

I Need A New Pillow November 28, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — Rachel @ 1:11 pm

So, I need a new bed pillow.  I’ve had the one currently on my bed for a pretty good while. When I was changing the sheets the other day, I realized that (gross) the cover was stained and it has pretty much lost it’s shape.  It’s a nice pillow, but I think it has seen better days.  I don’t adhere to that thing that you’re supposed to throw away pillows every six months or something because I just don’t think it’s necessary. I throw them away/give them to the dog when they look nasty, feel bad, or are all flattened out and bent out of shape.  I don’t really put too much stock into all that crap about  “there are dust mites inside” blah blah blah. Yes, I’m sure  dust mites are  inside it. Guess what? Dust mites are also IN YOUR MATTRESS and ALL OVER YOUR CARPET and IN YOUR COUCH and ALL OVER YOUR HOUSE. Oh well, big damn deal. Bugs=Everywhere, move on with your life and quit worrying about it. I figure, there is only so much war I can wage on germs and bugs, and I’d rather save that for, I don’t know, things like my food and making sure the bathtub isn’t  black with mildew.

So yeah, back to the pillows. No, I don’t throw them away every six months.  I’ll take my chances with the dust mites or whatever.  I don’t know what kind of pillow to buy.

D has a super pillow. He got it at the sleep.number store. It’s a huge king sized pillow. It’s made out of some kind of super memory foam, doesn’t get hot (you know how you always have to turn the pillow over to get to the cool side? not this one. it doesn’t absorb the heat or something.), and it isn’t too squishy or too hard. It’s pretty heavy though, and it was mucho expensivo.

I like D’s pillow. I often steal it for watching tv and stuff.  I think if I get one like that, I need one that is a little bit lighter though. I sleep on my stomach, with my head turned to the right, with one arm under the pillow.  I don’t need a ultra firm pillow because of this. I don’t want it to feel like I’m sleeping on a mountain (you know, that feeling you get when you’re sleeping on a pillow that’s too thick and it makes your head go at a funny angle?).  I don’t want one that is TOO soft though, because then my neck won’t be supported right.  I also move out of the position I went to sleep in. I wake up on my back or on my side a lot, so I want an equal opportunity pillow, one that is BEST for stomach sleepers, but is comfortable no matter how you use it.

I like the sleep.number pillows, but I’m not sure how much is too much to pay for a pillow.  If I can get an equal quality pillow for cheaper, that would be great.   I like the way some pillows feel initially, but then they get all bunched and jammed as the night goes on.  I like memory foam, but it needs to not be ultra dense. I have a memory foam pillow that I don’t use because it’s contoured and it pokes into my neck funny, and it’s also too thick.

So, in short I need a pillow for:

*someone that sleeps on their stomach, with arm underneath the pillow.

*someone that tosses and turns a bit during their sleep, sometimes ending up on their back or their side

That is:

*not too soft

*not too firm

*not too “thick”

What do you think is a reasonable price for a pillow? I am willing to pay a lot, if the pillow will last for a good while, and will retain it’s shape.

So what kinds of pillows do you like?

What do you recommend?

Black Friday

I love shopping. However, I do not love shopping on black Friday, so I do not go. I know I could save money and blah, blah, blah, but I really don’t care to get up at 3:00 in the morning to fight the crowds over a pair of pajama pants or a cordless drill.

So I am sitting at home, in my pink pajamas printed with sheep, relaxing. I might do some online shopping, but that will be all.

Don’t get me wrong, I like saving money, but I also like saving my sanity. I don’t think I’d be a happy camper if I’d gotten up and driven to the outlets this morning.

As it is, I’m still fairly sleepy, D and I stayed up way late last night watching “Christmas Vacation”. That and “A Christmas Story” are my favorite Holiday movies.

What are some of your favorite holiday movies? Do you go shopping on Black Friday?

Happy Thanksgiving November 27, 2008

Happy Thanksgiving to all!

I hope you all have a wonderful and safe holiday, spent with family and friends!

Don’t eat too much turkey!

Pre-Turkey Day Blitz November 26, 2008

Filed under: life is flippin suh-weet — Rachel @ 9:32 am

I woke up before seven a.m. this morning. This is a rarity for me, because a) I have nowhere that I HAVE to go today, and b) I don’t get many chances to just sleep as long as I want. But I somehow wanted to get up and get going early today.

And Miss Mayzie Jane also felt that it was an appropriate time for me to wake up.

Me (chatting with D): “Mayzie is crying outside the bedroom door.”

D: “So let her in!”

Me: “No. She’ll get hair all over the white bedspread, and also eat my bee.”

Let me just take this moment to assure you that I do not keep live bees (or dead bees for that matter) in bed with me. My bee refers to my prized stuffed bee, that is actually a yellow jacket, but that’s a different story entirely.

I also want to assure you that I am not a mean dog mommy. Miss Mayzie is welcome to lounge on my bed, provided that a) It is not the day before Thanksgiving, when many, many people are coming to our house tomorrow and b) She makes an attempt to stay on her snowman blanket. Oh yes, and let me assure you that she had already gone to the bathroom, and had adequate food and water, AND has not one, but TWO dog beds for her lounging pleasure.  I really don’t think that she wanted to lay on the bed, she just likes to check up on me. Awww.

I really did feel sort of mean after I got up. Oh well. She forgave me. (Especially after I gave her a few animal crackers.)

I reaally need to clean my bathroom. It’s not filthy or anything, but the counter is littered with makeup and numerous bottles of toothpaste. (Note to self: Finish a bottle of toothpaste before buying more.)

So I’m off to go shop for final Turkey Day touches with my mommy.

I hope you all have a wonderful, happy, and safe Thanksgiving!

Technical Problems November 24, 2008

Filed under: nerdiness, the internets is cheaper than therapy — Rachel @ 10:07 pm

So I just had a minor freak out a moment ago. I was logging into this blog, when I realized that firefox had deleted my password. Whatever. Happens sometimes. I tried to put in the password. Failed. Tried again. Failed. Realized that I have too many different passwords and could not remember it, so I changed the password. Ok. Pretty easy. Get email with new password. Attempt to use new password. Am shown a message saying that the authors have deleted the contents of this blog. WHAT? I am the author. I didn’t delete anything except for a few rant-tastic posts that after writting them I stopped and read them and decided they sounded wayyy snotty and mean, two things which I am definitely not.

So I freaked a little.

I visited another blog I had commented on, and clicked through to this one. Then it finally accepted the password.

I don’t know what I would do if my little piece of cyber-space was gone suddenly.

Why, I’d have nowhere to vent.

And I’d also probably have to start paying someone to listen to my problems. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but when your problem du jour is trying to find time to write your final exam essays, you really are pretty lucky. (And also probably not in need of therapy.)
